As military tensions between India and Pakistan intensify, flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have been severely disrupted, with 138 flights cancelled on Friday alone.
The cancellations, which occurred between 5:00 AM and 2:00 PM, include both domestic and international routes.
According to officials, 66 outbound domestic flights and 63 inbound domestic flights were grounded, along with 5 outbound and 4 inbound international flights.
The disruptions follow India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor” on Wednesday—a retaliatory strike targeting what the military described as terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The operation was carried out in response to a deadly militant attack in Kashmir on April 22.In the wake of the strikes, the Indian government temporarily closed 27 airports, including key hubs in Chandigarh, Srinagar, and Amritsar, as a precautionary measure.
The closures are expected to remain in effect until Saturday evening.
Heightened security measures have also been implemented at Delhi Airport, with intensified passenger screenings and increased surveillance, as authorities remain on high alert amid fears of further escalation.
