The Election Commission (EC) has said more than one transparent ballot box will not be allowed in a polling booth concurrently.
“Transparent ballot boxes will be used for voting in the upcoming 12th general election; no other type of box can be used,” the commission said in a notification on Sunday.
When a box is full, it should be sealed and kept in a safe place in front of everyone present in the polling booth and another transparent ballot box has to be kept in the place of the previous one following the necessary procedures, it added.
Boxes must be kept in a place that is visible to the candidates, polling agents and officials in the polling station, and they should be easily accessible to the voters.
In the notification, the commission said there is a provision for casting votes by postal ballot according to Section 27 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972 and Section 8 of the Voter List Rules, 2009.
