The Election Commission (EC) has instructed Bangladesh Bank to keep the scheduled banks open on Friday and Saturday ahead of the January 7 election.
On Wednesday, the governor of Bangladesh Bank received a letter from Atiar Rahman, deputy secretary of the EC Secretariat.
The branches in Dhaka, Chittagong, and other metropolitan cities, districts, and upazilas should remain open for two days with limited manpower so that the EC Secretariat, returning officers, and related parties can withdraw money.
The EC, however, said the bank officials who have been given duty as polling officers should be kept out of this.
