15-year-old girl raped in Lalmonirhat-bound running train
LALMONIRHAT: A train attendant on the Lalmonirhat-bound inter-city train ‘Lalmoni Express’ was apprehended by railway police on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.
A case has been filed by the police at Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station in connection with the incident.
The victim, who hailed from Mymensingh district, was sent to hospital for medical test.
The arrested was Akkas Ali, who hailed from Barishal Sadar Upazila’s Patang area. He was sent to jail after he was produced before a court.
According to Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station, the Lalmoni Express train left Kamalapur Rail Station in Dhaka for Lalmonirhat after 12:00am on Wednesday. After midnight, the sixth grader girl, who was waiting at Joydebpur Railway Station to go to Mymensingh, mistakenly boarded the ‘Lalmoni Express’. At the time of ticket checking, the attendant instantly asked the girl to be seated on a seat as she could not show any ticket. At about 8:00am, the attendant took the girl to an empty cabin of the train and raped her there.
Later, hearing the girl’s screaming, policemen on board the train rushed to the cabin and rescued her. Then they arrested the accused attendant Akkas Ali.
Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station officer-in-charge Ferdous Ali said ASI Ruhul Amin of the police station filed a case being the plaintiff. The accused was arrested and sent to jail. However, it could not been possible to contact anyone from the girl’s family so far, he said.
