The Dhaka 2nd Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on Thursday convicted and sentenced e-commerce company Alesha Mart’s chairman Manjur Alam Sikdar and his wife Sadiya Chowdhury to six months jail in a cheque dishonour case.
Judge Md Tasruzzaman of the court pronounced the judgment, also fining the couple Taka 3.46 lakh.
The court issued arrest warrant against the two convicts as they are yet to be arrested.
According to the case documents, victim Nuruzzaman Ripon filed the case on May 19, 2022, as he paid Taka 2.50 lakh to Alesha Mart on June 8, 2021, to buy a motorcycle. But after passing of 45 days, he didn’t get his bike from the e-commerce company, who instead gave him a cheque of Taka 3.46 lakh on December 28, 2021.
As Ripon tried to cash the cheque on March 20, 2022, it got dishonoured.
