New DGHS policy on disclosure of unborn child’s identity

The DGHS submitted this policy to the bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque on Monday (Jan 29).
According to the policy, the unborn child’s identity cannot be revealed. The DGHS said that everyone, including hospitals, diagnostic centres, and doctors, should comply with it.
Earlier, on Feb 3, 2020, the High Court issued a ruling seeking to know why revealing the gender identity of a child while in the womb is not illegal. On Jan 26 of the same year, a writ petition was filed with the High Court on this issue.
