A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted five-day remand application of two accused arrested on the charge of threatening to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After the hearing in the afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam’s court passed the order.
The remanded accused are Deen Islam alias Badal and Kabir Hossain Dewan.
Earlier, CTTC Sub Inspector Atiqur Rahman, the investigating officer of the case, presented the accused in the Special Powers Act case at Ramna Model police station and applied for a 10-day remand. The judge passed the order in view of the application.
Sub Inspector Nizam Uddin Fakir of General Registration Branch of Ramna Model police station confirmed the information.
On January 29, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrested the accused from the road in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The remand application mentioned that on April 17, 2023, at around 5pm, an email was received at the newsroom of DMP Media Public Relations Centre. The message conveyed a threat indicating that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would be shot at 4am on April 27, and the police would be powerless to prevent the attack.
Subsequently, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit initiated an investigation. Upon scrutinizing the email, CTTC determined that the sender of the threat message was located in Saudi Arabia.
The application further reveals that preliminary investigations suggest the arrested suspects, including Deen Islam and Kabir Hossain, had conspired together to carry out an attack on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
