JU gang rape: JU BCL leader among four remanded

A court in Dhaka has placed four accused including a Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader on a three-day remand in a case filed at Ashulia Police Station.
The case was filed on charge of gangrape of a wife confining her husband at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall of JU on Saturday night.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Rabeya Begum of Dhaka passed the remand order after the accused were produced before the court by the investigation officer of the case.
The accused who were placed on remand are JU International Relations department student and JU BCL’s International Affairs secretary Mostafizur Rahman, same department’s Sagar Siddiqui and Hasanuzzaman, and Botany department’s student Sabbir Hasan.
Producing them before the court, Ashulia Police Station’s sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman pleaded to place the accused on a seven-day remand. However, opposing the remand plea, Khalid Hossain, lawyer representing the accused, pleaded to grant bail to his clients. On behalf of the state, additional public prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul sought to place the accused on remand opposing to grant them bail.
After the hearing was over, the court placed them on a three-day remand.
The plaintiff of the case who is also the husband of the victim mentioned in the case statement that outsider fugitive accused Mamunur Rashid brought the plaintiff and his wife to the JU. At that time, they confined the plaintiff in a room of the hall concerned. Then arrested BCL leader Mostafiz and fugitive Mamun gangraped his wife with the help of fugitive accused Murad and arrested Sabbir Hasan, Sagar Siddique and Hasanuzzaman.
The victim’s husband filed the case on charge of gangrape at Ashulia Poliec Station. Following the incident, police arrested the four accused conducting raid at different places in Savar and Ashulia on Saturday night.
