Two people, including a Bangladeshi woman and a Rohingya man, were killed by a mortar shell fired from Myanmar along the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari Upazila of Bandarban district on Monday.
The Bangladeshi woman was Hasina Begum, 52, wife of Badsha Mia of the upazila, but the identity of the Rohingya man could not be known immediately.
Officer-in-charge of Naikhongchhari Police station Abbul Mannan has confirmed the matter.
He said the incident was occurred in Jalpaitali area of word no-4 of Ghumdhum union of the upazila on Monday noon.
Meanwhile, for the ongoing gunbattles between the insurgent groups and the Myanmar official force, 95 Myanmar border police, so far, have taken refuge in Bangladesh. Earlier, on Sunday six education institutions were declared closed due to ongoing fighting in Myanmar along the Ghumdhum-Tumbru border of the upazila.
Two Bangladeshis in Naikhongchhari were also injured by firing from across the border in Myanmar on Sunday morning.
Mentionable, on Saturday afternoon, bullets fired from across the border hit an auto-rickshaw on the Tambru border road. The front glass of the auto-rickshaw was broken.
