Sanjida Akhter, the first-ever foreign woman footballer of East Bengal FC, scored from a stunning free-kick Monday to record her maiden Indian Women’s League goal in the debut overseas season.
From more than 30 yards out, Sanjida unleashed a high curved strike that dipped into the top corner, giving the opponent goalkeeper no chance to open her account for the traditional Indian outfit.
It was East Bengal’s eighth match in the top flight league against Karnataka-based Kickstart FC who eventually won the encounter 3-1 to stay third in the points table.
Bangladesh skipper Sabina Khatun was representing Kickstart in her second spell in the IWL and came off the bench as a substitute in the 86th minute.
Sanjida became the talk of the city of joy since her move to the Red and Gold brigade as the club’s historic overseas signing.
