Flower sales marked a sharp rise across the country in last two days and it will hit Tk 200 crore due to increasing demands of flowers, floral gifts and bouquets to celebrate the Pahela Falgun and Valentine’s Day.
Bangladesh Flowers Society president Babul Proshad said the business has reached at Tk. 200 crore across the country.
He said, flower worth almost Tk 13-14 crore have already been sold in the last five days in Jashore centering Pahela Falgun and Valentine’s Day.
“We have a target to sell flower worth about Tk 50-60 crore across the country this year from February 9 to 21,” he said, adding that due to favourable weather conditions, farmers produce huge amounts of flowers this year. Floating Hawkers’ Association at Shahbagh president Abul Kalam said they made huge sales from Saturday as many people came to Ekushey Book Fair on the day as it is a weekly holiday.
“Valentine’s Day is the biggest day for florists across the country and we stockpiled huge flowers for brisk sales,” he said, adding that they made huge sales on Wednesday as well.
The florists geared up their shops with different kinds of flowers targeting the festive occasions with many temporary flower shops popping up beside the streets in different cities across the country.
The Pahela Falgun was celebrated with great zeal and splendour. Many couples hanged out on the day by different vehicles in the capital. They were seen thronging different tourist spots wearing colourful dresses with flowers in their hands. The farmers have grown huge amount of flowers this year targeting Pahela Falgun, Valentine’s Day and Ekushey February.
The traders reported huge sales on the day of Pahela Falgun and the momentum will continue till the 21st February. The prices of all kinds of flowers went up ahead of these festivals. According to the Bangladesh Flower Society, there are 18,000 flower growers and 30 thousand workers in the country.
