Woman arrested while carrying 11 gold bars worth Tk 1.30cr to India

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a woman along with 11 gold bars on Sunday (March 3) morning from frontier village of Chhaygharia under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district.
The arrested woman was idenfied as Taslima Khatun, 25, an inhabitant of Kamarpara area under Damurhuda upazila.
The operation was led the BGB-6 Battalion under the command of Lt Col Sayeed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off about an impending gold smuggling attempt to India, a BGB team deployed at village Chhaygharia intercepted a battery-operated easy-bike around 11:00am. The vehicle, suspected of transporting illicit cargo to the Indian border, was intercepted and searched by the border forces.
Upon inspection, Taslima Khatun was found carrying 11 gold bars weighing 1.320kg. The market value of the seized gold bars is estimated at around Tk 1.30 crore.
Following the seizure, a case was filed against Taslima Khatun at Darshana Police Station, and the seizeds gold bars were deposited to Chuadanga treasury office.
