Seven killed in road crashes

A bus-microbus collision on Faridpur-Barishal highway at Chagolchira in Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district on Wednesday leaves five people dead.

At least seven people were killed and several others injured in separate road crashes in Gopalganj and Nilphamari districts on Wednesday.
Five people were dead when a bus rammed into a microbus on Faridpur-Barishal highway at Chagolchira in Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district on Wednesday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident occurred around 10:45am when the Dhaka-bound bus hit the microbus, leaving five people dead on the spot and several others injured, said officer-in-charge of Maksudpur Police Station, Asraful Alam.
Witnesses claimed that 15-20 people were injured in the accident.
Meanwhile, two people were killed and three others were injured in a road crash in Nilphamari Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 8am on the Nilphamari-Syedpur Highway at Jordorga area in the upazila .
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 52, son of Riaz Uddin, a resident of Bangalipur Nijpara area under Syedpur upazila, and Nur e Alam Siddique, son of Asad Ali Paramanik, from Naogaon district.
Nur e Alam was an official of Mercantile Bank Nilphamari branch and Abu Taher was an office assistant of Upazila Fisheries Department.
Quoting locals, police said a CNG run autorickshaw from Sayedpur with four passengers was heading towards Nilphamari in the morning. On the way, when it reached in Jordarga area, it collided with a shallow-engine run tractor, leaving two autorickshaw passengers dead on the spot and three others critically injured. On information, fire service personnel rescued the injured persons and sent them to nearby hospital, they said. Nilphamari Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Tanvirul Islam said being informed, they have recovered the bodies from the spot and seized the autorickshaw. Legal actions were being taken in this regard, added the OC.
