Monday evening in Tollygunge was different this time. This is because, by announcing the release dates of 18 films together, the production company ‘SK Movies’ from across the border has set a unique precedent. Through this, the film industries of both Bengals witnessed a historic moment. During this event, Dhaka’s megastar Shakib Khan participated alongside some of the top stars of Tollywood!
Since such a major announcement about Bengali cinema was made in Kolkata, SK Movies certainly did not hold back in organizing the event. After a brief pause, the production company seems to have embarked on a new journey.
Under the title “Eighteen on Screen”, SK Movies announced the release dates of 18 films up until 2026. The event was attended by Dhaka’s megastar Shakib Khan as well as several renowned stars from Tollywood. Due to his close relationship with SK Movies, Shakib Khan flew in to Kolkata for a night after wrapping up the shoot of his film “Borbad” in Mumbai. Also present at the event were Rituporna Sengupta, Srabanti Chatterjee, Shibprasad Mukherjee, Shashwata Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Ankush-Oindrila, Parambrata, Rudranil, and other stars. Among these stars, megastar Shakib Khan stood out as the centerpiece of the event.

Recently, several videos from this event went viral on social media. In these videos, the host, Mir Afsar Ali, calls Shakib Khan to the stage, addressing him as a megastar. The stage instantly becomes illuminated. Shakib then speaks briefly about his upcoming film “Dard”.
Shakib said, “Dard is a movie with an absolutely wonderful story. Although the song release was delayed, it immediately became a trending topic within an hour of its release, thanks to everyone’s love. This overwhelmed me.” Regarding Kolkata, Shakib added, “Every time I come here, I never feel like there is a divide between the two Bengals.”
Shakib Khan also shared a post on social media about this moment. Reflecting on the evening, he wrote, “Dard is the centerpiece among the 18 films.”
Dard, directed by Ananya Mamun, has been produced as a joint venture. Along with India’s Sonal Chauhan, the film also stars actress Payel Sarkar from across the border. The cast further includes Bishwajit Chakraborty, Rajesh Sharma, Alok Jain and Bollywood’s Rahul Dev. From Bangladesh, the film features Elina Shammi, Imtu Ratish, Safa Mariah and many others.
