Hasnat-Sarjis survive road accicent on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway

DE Online Desk:

Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, were involved in a road accident on Wednesday evening at Haji Rastar Mor in Chunati Union on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway.

The front portion of their vehicle was damaged in the incident.

The accident occurred while they were returning from visiting the grave of Saiful Islam Alif, a lawyer who was recently killed in Chattogram.

However, both Hasnat and Sarjis escaped unhurt.

Lohagara police station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Alim stated that a truck has been seized in connection with the incident, and a general diary (GD) is in process. However, the exact cause of the accident remains unknown at this stage.

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Chief Organizer Abdul Hannan Masud wrote in a Facebook post: “While returning from paying respects at the grave of Shaheed Advocate Saiful Islam Alif, at approximately 7:30pm, an attempt was made to harm the convoy carrying Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam.”

He claimed that initial investigations reveal that the truck driver claimed to have unloaded goods in Cox’s Bazar after transporting them from Mymensingh. “However, no evidence of any such unloading has been found,” he wrote.

He called for a protest at Dhaka University Raju Sculpture alleging that a vested group attempted to kill the student leaders.
