At least 20 people were injured and many houses vandalisedin post-polls violence in Madaripur, Jhenaidah and Natore districts on Monday.
Ten people were injured in bomb attacks during a procession brought out by the supporters of independent candidate Tahmina Begum on the occasion of winning the election at Fasiatala in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district on Monday.
Witnesses said the supporters of independent candidate Tahmina brought out a procession over their victory in the election.
At one stage, the supporters of the AL-backed candidate led by Alinagar UP chairman Shahid Pervez attacked on the procession, triggering a chase and counter-chase.
Later, several bombs were exploded, leaving ten people injured.
Of the injured, six were taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex from where two were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Among the injured Emarat Sarkar, 45, was critically injured.
Sarkar Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kalkini Police Station, said police are trying to arrest the attackers.
At least 10 people were injured and 50 houses vandalised as the supporters of the winning independent candidate from Jhenaidah-2 Naser Shahriar Zahedi attacked defeated AL candidate Tahjib Alom Siddique’s supporters houses in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
After getting the result of 12th parliamentary polls, the supporters of Naser Shahriar Zahedi attacked on Barikhali, Hiradanga, and Surapara villages under the upazila at around 11am on Monday, confirmed Shaheen Uddin, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.
Tahjib Alom Siddique said at least 10 people, including a woman, were injured and at least 50 houses have been vandilised and lootted the by attackers.
According to locals, after the announcement of the polls’ results, there was tension in the three villages.
Defeated AL candidate Tahjib said the police superintendent and district commissioner assured him of necessary actions.
