In their bid to regain the Under-19 World Cup title, Bangladesh will begin their campaign today by taking on mighty India at Bloemfontein in South Africa.
Bangladesh first won an Under-19 World Cup in 2020, beating India and that was the first global major trophy of the country in its cricket history. The senior team so far couldn’t win any global trophy.
The young Tigers, however, failed to replicate the history in 2022 but they would start the tournament his year, high on confidence, largely due to their Asia Cup triumph.
Bangladesh youngsters beat the teams like Sri Lanka, India on their way to win the first ever Asia Cup title.
However, they slumped to a 112-run defeat to Sri Lanka in their first practice game for the World Cup. But the confidence further soared after they demolished Australia by five wickets in the second and final warm-up game.
“The ultimate target is to regain the title. But first we are keen to seal the semifinal berth,” said selector Hannan Sarker ahead of leaving the country. “Then a win in that knockout game will take us to the final. Two wins will make us champions. The target is always to become champions.”
