Former mayor Ekramul Haque Titu has officially won the Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) election by a significant margin.
Returning Officer Belayet Hossain Chowdhury announced the results of 128 centres of MCC by-polls at the Tarek Memorial Auditorium in Mymensingh on Saturday night.
The voting in the by-polls took place from 8am to 4pm.
Ekramul Haque (clock), also the president of the city Awami League, secured 139,604 votes.
His nearest rival district Awami League advisor Sadekul Haque Khan (Elephant) got 35,763 votes.
Besides, District Awami League president Ehtesamul Alam (Horse) got 6,077 votes.
According to the sources of the returning officer’s office, there are a total of 33 wards in the Mymensingh city.
Five candidates for the post of mayor, 69 for the post of reserved councilor and 149 for the post of general councilor contested in the polls.
A ward councilor has been elected unopposed as there are no rival candidates.
The total number of polling stations in Mymensingh City Corporation is 128.
The total number of voters in the election is 336, 496. Among them, 172,615 are female voters and 163,872 are male.
