After fasting all day, many people eat the wrong foods out of hunger during Iftar, most of which are fried and heavy. However, after fasting for an extended period, health depends significantly on what and how much you eat during Iftar. Given the current heat, many people may fall ill from fasting for long hours without consuming adequate nourishment. Hence, it is essential to consume certain cool foods during Iftar to keep the stomach cool at this time.
While fried foods may be delicious, they can cause discomfort and heartburn in the stomach, lacking essential nutrients. Therefore, it’s advisable to avoid such foods and opt for alternatives that keep the stomach cool.
In a social media post on nutritious Iftar foods, Fahmida Hashem, a senior nutritionist at LabAid Cardiac Hospital, recommended having flattened rice (chira), bananas, yogurt, jaggery, or honey during Ramadan. Chira, bananas, molasses, and honey are excellent sources of iron.
You can consume these foods not only at Iftar but also during Sehri or dinner. It also beneficial for individuals with low hemoglobin levels in their blood. People with diabetes can also include these foods in their fasting diet. Additionally, you can replace any meal with these foods at other times except during fasting. However, it’s crucial to be mindful of the quantity consumed.
