Bangladesh Submarine Cables Company Limited PLC (BSCPLC) in a press release on Friday (July 12) afternoon said that the cable will be closed for about 12 hours from 6 am to 6 pm on July 13 for maintenance work undertaken by the consortium at the Singapore end of the Submarine Cable (CMU-4) system. Circuits connected through will be partially closed.
The notification also mentions that due to this uninterrupted internet service may be disrupted in different parts of the country. BSCPLC apologizes for this temporary inconvenience.

However, circuits connected through the country’s second submarine (SIMUI-5) cable installed at Kuakata will continue to operate as usual.
According to BSCPLC sources, currently the total bandwidth usage in the country is more than 5 thousand Gbps.
More than half of this, around 2,700 Gbps, comes through International Terrestrial Cable (ITC) licences, which are used to import bandwidth from India overland.
The remaining bandwidth of 2400 Gbps is provided by BSC PLC. This bandwidth is provided through two submarine cables. Bangladesh is a member of the Southeast Asia-Middle East-West Europe-4 (CMEU-4) Consortium.
