Police have all preparations for fair polls: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has said the police have already taken all necessary preparations to hold the national election in a free, fair, and festive manner.
He made the remark in response to a question from a journalist after attending the 13th anniversary of the Bangladesh Police Blood Bank at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital on Tuesday noon.
The IGP said, “Bangladesh Police is a 150-year-old organisation. We have long been performing election duties. The department has made all-out preparations for the upcoming parliamentary election. Along with all kinds of training, we have the necessary logistic support and equipment for the election. We are ready with the required number of people. Already, we have adopted special plans for pre-election, election time, and post-election.”
He also said, “After the declaration of the poll schedule, we are working as per the directive of the Election Commission. We are following the tasks given by the Election Commission. We have taken all necessary initiative with a view to holding elections in a free, fair, and festive atmosphere. Earlier, we accomplished the duty of election successfully. We are prepared to face any challenge in holding a successful election.”
In reply to another question, he said, “We are conducting intelligence-based operations against any kind of subversive act. Police are ready to face any kind of subversive act in order to hold elections peacefully.”
He further said, “We have not received any lists of terrorists and illegal arms holders, but we have got directives to arrest them.”
