A police official was injured during a clash between law enforcers and the supports of blockade called by BNP and its allies in Anwara Upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday.
The injured Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station Sohel Ahmed suffered serious injury in the right eye during the clash.
A man has been detained in this connection.
Dr Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Anwara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said the OC Sohel was brought to the hospital in critical condition. Later he was sent to an ophthalmologist in the city after initial treatment, he added.
Mohammad Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Anwara Police Station, said some people under the banner of BNP, Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal blocked the road in front of Shashi Community Center and vandalized some vehicles.
They attacked a police vehicle with sticks and brickbats, leaving OC Sohel injured.
Police also fired eight rounds of bullet in self-defense, said OC (investigation) Mohiuddin.
Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain control of the situation.
