A Dhaka court on Friday granted a five-day remand for Mehraj Islam, the prime accused in the murder case of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University who was brutally killed in the capital’s Banani area on April 19.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub issued the remand order after law enforcement produced Mehraj before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for further interrogation.
Mehraj, 20, was arrested on April 23 by a team from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) in Gaibandha Sadar upazila.
He is the son of Nurul Islam Sardar from Banani Hajaribari in Dhaka.
Parvez, a third-year student of the university’s Textile Engineering Department, was attacked along with his friend Md Tariqul Islam by a group wielding sharp weapons in front of the campus on April 19.
Parvez sustained severe injuries and was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir filed a case with Banani Police Station on April 20, naming eight individuals and accusing 25 to 30 people of involvement in the fatal attack.
The investigation into the killing is currently ongoing.
