The body of a 26-year-old college student was recovered from the Meghna River on Thursday afternoon, two and a half hours after he went missing while swimming with friends near the Gazaria ferry terminal in Munshiganj.
The deceased, Imam Hossain Noyon, was a resident of Kurirpar village in Narayanganj.
He was a college student and also employed at a private firm named Asia Tech.
He was the youngest among three siblings.According to Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of the Munshiganj Fire Service, a diving team from the department retrieved Noyon’s body at around 5:30pm near Char Kishoreganj — an area popular with tourists and locally dubbed the “mini Cox’s Bazar.”
Family sources said Noyon had gone on a recreational trip to the riverside spot with colleagues.
Around noon, he and five others entered the river for a swim, during which he suddenly disappeared beneath the water.
His companions quickly contacted the national emergency helpline 999, prompting a response from the Fire Service.
Relatives also rushed to the scene upon receiving the news.
Authorities have expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to exercise caution when swimming in rivers, particularly during informal outings.
