Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has welcomed investment proposals from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), expressing appreciation for the Gulf nation’s steps toward easing visa restrictions for Bangladeshi nationals.
The remarks came during a high-level meeting on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna, where Professor Yunus met UAE Cabinet Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, who is leading a visiting delegation.
“We appreciate the UAE’s support and welcome investment in various sectors,” Professor Yunus said, also thanking the UAE for its progress on visa resumption.
“Thank you for opening the door.While a few steps remain, we are optimistic that continued engagement will help address the remaining issues,” he added.
According to Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, the UAE delegation, which includes senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Investment, arrived in Dhaka Wednesday afternoon and was received by Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
In the meeting, Sheikh Nahayan said, “I am here under the instruction of our President to reaffirm our friendship and express solidarity with Bangladesh. We value the growing dialogue between our two governments and look forward to deeper collaboration across sectors — from investments to labor mobility.”
The UAE has recently resumed issuing 30 to 50 visit visas daily for Bangladeshi nationals.
In addition, bulk visas for business delegations have been fast-tracked, while the Ministry of Human Resources has reactivated the online system for processing skilled employment visas.
Visas for marketing managers, hotel staff, and other professionals have already been issued through this system.Notably, 500 visas for Bangladeshi security guards were issued recently, with another 1,000 approved and set to be processed soon.
UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Ali Al Hmoudi and Bangladesh Ambassador to the UAE Tareq Ahmed were also present during the discussions.
The UAE delegation departed Dhaka following the conclusion of the meeting.
