An 18-year-old Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidate from Notre Dame College in Dhaka died on Monday afternoon after reportedly falling from an upper floor of an academic building on the college campus.
The deceased, identified as Dhrubobrata Das, was believed to have fallen from the third floor of Father Timm Bhaban around 3:20 PM, according to Motijheel police station.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead at approximately 4:30 PM.
Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed that Dhrubobrata’s father, Banibrata Das, brought him to the hospital following the incident.
“We suspect he fell from the third floor as the second floor of the building was closed at the time,” said Mesbah Uddin, officer-in-charge of Motijheel police station.
The body has been sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
Police said an unnatural death case will be filed in connection with the incident.
Dhrubobrata’s father said he had been waiting outside the college while his son went inside to collect his HSC admit card.
“I heard my son fell from the building. It appears to be an accident,” he said.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the fall.
