The body of a five-year-old girl, who went missing from the Tejkunipara area in Dhaka’s Tejgaon on Monday, has been recovered from a garbage dump under the Bijoy Sarani flyover.
Police confirmed that the child, identified as Roza Moni, was found around 11am on Tuesday.
Her body was discovered inside a sack by locals who had joined the search efforts after her sudden disappearance.
Family members had earlier used loudspeakers to alert the neighborhood and seek help in locating her.
Law enforcement officers from Tejgaon Police Station recovered the body and sent it to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Initial observations suggest the child may have been subjected to torture before being killed.
“There are visible burn marks on the body, possibly from hot water or another substance,” said Sub-Inspector Abdul Quader.
“We suspect foul play and are awaiting forensic analysis to confirm the cause of death and whether sexual assault was involved.”
Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mobarak Hossain stated that the body was likely hidden in the dump to conceal the crime.
Forensic experts are examining the remains to determine the exact cause of death and whether the child was sexually assaulted before being murdered.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community, and police say a thorough investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
