DE News Desk :
The government has removed three top officials of Barishal University — Vice-Chancellor Professor Shuchita Sharmin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Golam Rabbani, and Treasurer Professor Mamunur Rashid — in response to ongoing student protests demanding their dismissal.
The Ministry of Education confirmed the decision through three separate notifications issued on Tuesday, each signed by ASM Kasem, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
As part of the reshuffle, Professor Mohammad Toufiq Alam of Rajshahi University has been appointed as the acting vice-chancellor of Barishal University.
The development comes after weeks of sustained demonstrations by students who accused the university administration of mismanagement and lack of transparency in institutional affairs.
Protesters had been calling for immediate action and structural reform within the university’s leadership.
Officials said the changes aim to restore order on campus and rebuild trust in the institution’s governance.
Further updates on administrative restructuring and future appointments are expected in the coming days.
