Chittagong University (CU) has conferred an honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt) degree on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to poverty alleviation through microcredit and his efforts in promoting global peace.
The honorary degree was formally presented during CU’s 5th Convocation Ceremony, held this afternoon at the university’s central playground in the presence of thousands of graduates, faculty members, and dignitaries.
CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yeahia Akhter handed over the certificate to Prof. Yunus on behalf of the university.
Also present at the ceremony were Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Dr. Mohammed Shamim Uddin Khan and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Md. Kamal Uddin.
Prof. Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former faculty member of CU’s Economics Department, expressed deep gratitude for the honor and reflected on his longstanding ties with the university, calling it a “homecoming filled with emotion and purpose.”
