Following their historic qualification for the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in India, several players from the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team have made notable progress in the latest ICC ODI rankings, released today.
The rankings reflect a significant stride for the team, with multiple players reaching career-best figures in both batting and bowling categories.
Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter, who impressed with a four-wicket haul against Scotland, has climbed two spots to rank 10th among ODI bowlers, accumulating 618 rating points—a new personal best.
Although this marks her highest rating points tally, her best ranking remains 7th, achieved in 2014.
Fellow spinner Rabeya Khan, who also claimed six wickets during the qualifiers, rose one place to a career-high 22nd, with 512 rating points, the highest of her career both in terms of ranking and ratings.
Veteran leg-spinner Fahima Khatun also made gains, advancing two places to 46th in the bowling chart.Rising fast bowler Marufa Akter enjoyed the biggest leap, jumping 11 places to reach a career-best 49th in the bowling rankings, with 392 points.
She also saw upward movement in the batting rankings, climbing six spots to 85th, with a personal best of 317 points.
In the batting department, Sharmin Akhter Supta surged eight positions to a career-high 21st, thanks to her consistent performances throughout the qualifiers, where she amassed 266 runs, the second-highest in the tournament.
Her peak rating of 559 came following the match against the West Indies.
Only Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty ranks higher than Sharmin, despite dropping two places to 19th.
All-rounder Ritu Moni also impressed, rising 15 spots to 73rd in the batting rankings.
Though not a career-best position, she recorded her highest rating points to date, reaching 339.
On the global stage, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt continues to lead the ODI batting rankings.
England’s Sophie Ecclestone remains the top-ranked bowler, while Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner holds the number one position among all-rounders.
In the final stages of qualification, Bangladesh’s fate hung in the balance after a narrow loss to Pakistan.
However, a dramatic outcome in the match between the West Indies and Thailand sealed their World Cup berth.
Although the West Indies chased down Thailand’s 167-run target in just 10.5 overs, an extremely tight net run rate margin—just 0.013—meant Bangladesh edged them out to claim the final qualification spot.
The recent rankings boost highlights the progress of the Bangladesh Women’s team and reflects growing depth and potential as they prepare to compete on the global stage later this year.
