Silvano Maria Tomasi, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, called on Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his hotel in Vatican City on Saturday.
Professor Yunus also held a meeting with George Jacob Koovakad, Cardinal Prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue.
Both dignitaries exchanged views on strengthening interfaith understanding and cooperation during their discussions.
In addition, Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin paid a courtesy call on the Chief Adviser at the same venue.
Professor Yunus was in Vatican City to attend the funeral mass of Pope Francis, held at St. Peter’s Square on Saturday.
Before and after the service, the Chief Adviser exchanged greetings with a host of global leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, former US President Joe Biden, and President of Finland Alexander Stubb.
He also interacted with the President of Kenya, the President of Montenegro, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, the President of Ecuador, the President of East Timor, the Prime Minister of Honduras, the President of Iceland, and the President of Portugal.
Other notable dignitaries included the King and Queen of Belgium, the Prime Minister of Belgium, Prince Albert of Monaco, the Prince and Princess of Norway, the Prime Minister of Tunisia, and the Prince and Princess of Liechtenstein.
Professor Yunus also engaged with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), foreign ministers from Sri Lanka, Bahrain, and Syria, as well as a former US Secretary of State.
The visit highlighted Bangladesh’s presence at a major global gathering and underlined the Chief Adviser’s engagement with world leaders on the sidelines of an important religious and diplomatic event.
