Egypt and Qatar on Sunday praised the announcement by Hamas regarding the planned release of US-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander from Gaza, describing the move as a constructive development in ongoing ceasefire negotiations.
In a joint statement, the two nations, who have been mediating alongside the United States in efforts to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas, said the decision reflects a “gesture of goodwill” and represents “an encouraging step toward the resumption of negotiations.”
They emphasized that progress in talks could pave the way for a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the exchange of prisoners and detainees, and the safe and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians affected by the conflict.
Both countries reiterated their commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at ending hostilities and alleviating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
