DE News Desk :
Former President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid departed for Thailand early Thursday, months after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government following a student-led uprising on August 5 last year.
Unlike many senior leaders who left the country shortly after the upheaval, Hamid had remained in Bangladesh until now.
Airport sources at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed that Hamid boarded Thai Airways flight TG340 to Bangkok, which departed at 3:05am.
He reportedly arrived at the airport around 11pm the previous evening and completed immigration formalities before his departure.
Hamid is one of several individuals named in a case filed on January 14 at Kishoreganj Sadar police station.
Other accused in the case include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and former minister Obaidul Quader.
Abdul Hamid served two consecutive terms as president from 2013 to 2023 under the Awami League government.
