DE Online Desk:
The government has instructed the authorities concerned to reinstate the “except Israel” clause on Bangladeshi passport, reversing a 2021 decision that had removed the words.
Security Services Division of the Home Affairs Ministry issued a letter on April 7 to the director general of the Department of Immigration and Passports to take necessary steps to reinstate the ‘except Israel’ condition on Bangladeshi passport as was done previously.
‘Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh’ held a ‘March for Gaza’ rally on Saturday where speakers demanded the restoration of the ‘except Israel’ clause and the cancellation of all agreements with Israel.
Earlier, Bangladeshi passport use to say: “This passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel.”
In May 2021, the government removed the clause from e-passports citing international compliance.
