BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called on everyone to work together to build a democratic Bangladesh, warning that fascist collaborators remain active and are still conspiring to destroy the mass uprising achievements. She called for holding acceptable elections to quickly complete minimum reforms to repair the state and return to a democratic system.
She made this call to the interim government while virtually joining the party’s extended meeting held at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Complex from London on Thursday.
The BNP Chairperson said, “The continuous struggle you have waged for democracy and my freedom for fifteen long years and countless of our colleagues have lost their lives, have been subjected to oppression and torture and are still roaming the balconies of the courts seeking justice despite being embroiled in almost a hundred false cases. Not only the party but the nation will remember this sacrifice forever.
Noting that the country is going through a critical time today, Begum Khaleda Zia said, As a result of the coordinated movement of you and the students, the fascist rulers have departed. An interim government has been formed. The people’s expectation from them is to quickly complete the minimum reforms to repair the state and organize an election acceptable to all to return to the democratic system.
Addressing the party leaders, Khaleda Zia said, I believe that you will be more inspired by the ideals of martyr President Ziaur Rahman and work together for success in the next election. Do not do anything that will make your struggle and sacrifices go in vain.
She said, We should always remember the words of martyr President Ziaur Rahman. The party is bigger than the individual, the country is bigger than the party. People from all walks of life in Bangladesh, especially the youth, are looking forward to positive democratic changes today.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the July Uprising, Khaleda Zia began her speech by saying, I pay tribute to those who were martyred in the long anti-fascist struggle and those who were martyred in the recent July-August massacre due to the brutal and horrific repression of the fascist rulers. I express my sincere condolences to those who were injured. Even though I am in the UK for medical reasons, I am always by your side.
He said, the continuous struggle all are you have waged for democracy and my freedom for 15 long years and countless of our colleagues have been subjected to oppression and torture and have been plagued by almost one and a half million false cases. You are still roaming the courtroom for justice. Not only the party but the nation will remember your sacrifice forever.
The country is going through a critical time today. Fascism has departed as a result of your and the students’ coordinated movement. We have to forget our petty narrow-mindedness and work for the greater interest of the country and the nation.
Still, the fascist allies and the enemies of Bangladesh are engaged in a deep conspiracy to sabotage the achievements made through the mass uprising. We have to foil this conspiracy by taking the people along with us through steel-solid unity.
We all have to work together to build a democratic Bangladesh. Let’s build the party more united and consistent in leading the movement, struggle and state governance.
