Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that more than 90 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes over the past 48 hours, as Israel intensifies its military campaign in the region.
The escalation comes amid continued efforts to pressure Hamas to release hostages and disarm.
Among the dead are 15 people killed overnight, including women and children.
Hospital staff say some of the casualties were sheltering in areas designated as humanitarian zones.
In Khan Younis, at least 11 people lost their lives, several of them inside a tent in the Mwasi area—a location that Israel has identified as a humanitarian zone and is currently home to hundreds of thousands of displaced residents.
Four additional fatalities were reported in Rafah, including a mother and her daughter, according to officials at the European Hospital, where the bodies were taken.
Israel has announced plans to intensify operations across Gaza and establish large “security zones” within the territory.
For the past six weeks, Gaza has also been under a complete blockade, preventing the entry of food, fuel, and other critical supplies.
Humanitarian organizations are warning of an unfolding crisis.
According to the United Nations, thousands of children are now malnourished, and the majority of Gaza’s population is surviving on less than one meal per day as resources dwindle.
On Friday, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, regional director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, appealed to newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, urging him to advocate for lifting the blockade to allow urgent medical and humanitarian aid into the strip.
