The four-day official trip comes at the invitation of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.
During his stay in Doha, Prof Yunus is scheduled to hold meetings with the Qatari Amir and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed, among other key engagements.
Briefing reporters at the Foreign Service Academy, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the visit reflects Dhaka’s growing interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, particularly energy and investment.
Prof Yunus will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and SDG Affairs Principal Coordinator Lamiya Morshed.
The delegation is scheduled to leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:00 PM.
Among the key events during the visit is an Investment Summit on April 23, where Bangladesh is hopeful for a positive response from Qatari investors.
Discussions are also expected to touch on the long-term LNG import agreement between the two nations, with a focus on expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
“Bangladesh is looking to deepen its trade and investment relations with Qatar,” said Alam, adding that visa-related matters will also be addressed during the bilateral talks.
Additionally, a significant session on the Rohingya crisis will be held as part of the summit, with participation from global stakeholders.
The interim government hopes to revive international attention on the issue and garner renewed support for a sustainable solution.
