A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee was killed after being struck by a Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) truck in Uttara, Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 1:15pm in front of the BNS Centre as the student, identified as Nayeem, 16, was crossing the road, said Shamim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Uttara East Police Station.
Following the collision, Nayeem’s classmates rushed him to a nearby Women’s Hospital. He was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3:15pm, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Nayeem, a resident of Pakuria in Uttara and originally from Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh, had been appearing for his SSC examinations from Uttara High School and College. His designated exam centre was Uttara RAJUK School.
Police have seized the truck involved in the accident, although the driver managed to flee the scene and is currently at large, OC Shamim added.
Inspector Faruk, in charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, confirmed that Nayeem’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
