Three cars torched, police injured following housemaid’s death in Banasree

Three private cars were torched at a garage in Banasree in the capital on Sunday morning over the death of a housemaid.
Being informed, two fire-fighting units and Rampura Police Station OC went to the spot.
Three police members, including OC Moshiur Rahman, were injured as angry residents threw brickbats to them. The OC was injured critically on his head.
The incident happened at House No 32, Banasree D Block, at 8am. According to Rampura Police Station OC Moshiur Rahman, a police team went to the house getting an information that a housemaid has died falling off from building. But before police, locals gathered in front of the house hearing the news. When police tried to recover the body, local people barred them. Then additional police force have been deployed to control the situation.
At one stage, the angry mob torched three cars inside the garage an threw brickbats to police.
The owner of the house is former tax commissioner Delwar Hossain. The housemaid worked at Delwar’s daughter Kaniz Fatema’s Mirpur house. Kaniz Fatema came to his father’s Banasree residence three days ago with her maid. The housemaid died falling from the building this morning, the OC added.
Police are investigating the incident.
