Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Monday said that 41.8 percent votes were cast in 12th parliamentary election held on Sunday.
He disclosed this while talking to journalists at the Election Commission after holding a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Watanabe Masato and a team of poll observers from Japan.
The CEC said the Japanese ambassador and observers thanked the commission for holding a fair election.
They observed the polling at several centers and reached to a conclusion that the election has become an example for Bangladesh, he said.
The CEC said that they also appreciated the professionalism of the polling agents of the country.
He mentioned that Japan will provide technical assistance spontaneously for future elections in Bangladesh if needed.
The Japanese observers will reveal their opinion over the overall situation of the election in a report, Awal said.
