Curtis Campher has shown an all-round performance as Chattogram Challengers beat Fortune Barishal by 10 runs in the ongoing BPL Match-11 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing 194, Barishal got a good start through Ahmed Shehzad, who took down the bowlers in the powerplay and brisked his way to 39.
However, since he was dismissed the innings felt a bit rocky.
Captain Tamim Iqbal made 33 off 30 while Soumya Sarkar scored 17 off 16 balls. The required run rate kept on going higher and higher.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (35 off 16) gave Chattogram a brief scare before Al-Amin Hossain stopped him in the 18th over.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s (23 off 22) slow innings did not help either. Eventually Barishal fell 10 runs short.
A dream game for Campher as he picked up 4 wickets and also contributed with three good catches in the outfield after his cameo innings earlier.
Bilal Khan picked up a couple of wickets as well, as the target always felt beyond Fortune Barishal.
Earlier, Avishka Fernando’s fiery knock of 91 cruised Chattogram to set the highest total in the ongoing BPL. Taijul Islam picked up two wickets for Barishal.
Chattogram made a shaky start to their innings losing opener Tanzid Hasan and wicket-keeper Imran Uzzaman early. Avishka was spontaneous, led from the front by a match-turning 70-run stand with Shahadat Hossain Dipu.
Dipu departed on 31 off 29 when Yannic Cariah bowled the batter to give Barishal the break but Avishaka continued to strike and added another partnership with Najibullah Zadran (18).
Campher came to the crease when Chattogram were 159-4, the Irish all-rounder stormed the field with a quick 9-ball 29 and Avishka scored 91 off 50 deliveries hitting five 4’s and seven 6’s.
