The second phase of Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslims, began on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi, on the outskirts of the city, today.
Usually, the Ijtema begins with ‘Aam Bayan’ (general sermons) by noted Islamic scholars after Fazr prayers and ends with Akheri Munajat (final prayers).
With the participation of the supporters of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, the second phase of the Ijtema will end on February 11.
The government has taken adequate security measures ahead of the 2nd phase of Biswa Ijtema.
Meanwhile, thousands of pilgrims boarding buses, trucks and pick-ups from different parts of the country have arrived on the Ijtema premises while many of them have joined tablighs at various mosques aiming to join this largest congregation.
The first phase of Bishwa Ijtema ended on February 4 on the same venue starting on February 2.
Religious Affairs Minister Faridul Haque Khan on Thursday inspected the Ijtema ground and talked to second phase Ijtema-organizers.
On his arrival, the minister was greeted with a flower bouquet by Gazipur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Mamunul Karim.
While talking to the journalists at the coordination center of the deputy commissioner (DC) after the inspection, Faridul said that the discussion is going on to bring Maulana Saad Saheb in the country.
