A 100-member Chinese business delegation, led by China’s Commerce Minister, is expected to visit Bangladesh soon, reflecting the deepening economic partnership between the two nations, according to Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin.
The announcement was made following a meeting between the Foreign Secretary and Peng Xiubin, Director General of the Bureau of Southeast and South Asian Affairs at the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka earlier this week.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral issues including trade, investment, education, and health cooperation.
The Foreign Secretary expressed appreciation for China’s facilitation of medical treatment for Bangladeshi patients in Kunming and noted that the affordable airfare on the Dhaka-Kunming route would further encourage medical tourism.
Bangladesh also urged China to increase the number of scholarships offered to Bangladeshi students at Chinese universities, highlighting the importance of educational exchanges in strengthening people-to-people ties.
The two sides also addressed the ongoing Rohingya crisis, reaffirming their commitment to mutual cooperation on regional and humanitarian issues.
Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin reiterated Bangladesh’s steadfast support for the one-China policy and praised the outcomes of recent visits to China by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
He noted that these high-level engagements have significantly boosted cooperation in areas such as trade, health, and education.
Peng Xiubin commended the warmth and hospitality of the Bangladeshi people towards China and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s aspirations for economic growth and development.
Referring to the recent visit by Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser and the productive discussions held with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he described Bangladesh as a “trusted friend and key partner” in the region.
He emphasized China’s continued support for infrastructure development, trade enhancement, and cultural cooperation, along with promoting party-to-party exchanges and expanding engagement with Bangladeshi think tanks and academia.
The Foreign Secretary thanked the Chinese government for its continued support and extended gratitude to Peng Xiubin for his visit to Bangladesh, reaffirming the countries’ shared commitment to advancing bilateral relations.
